Killeen TX | Copperas Cove TX | Harker Heights TX
This page is dedicated to information about the cities located conveniently to Fort Hood. These are the cities that Fort Hood military personnel call home.
Killeen, Texas
Killeen is located on the east and south
east boundaries of Fort Hood, in Bell County. Many
families stationed at Fort Hood call Killeen Texas their
home, enjoying the hustle and bustle of the largest city in
the area. Killeen has a wealth of restaurants, shopping
and entertainment to delight young and old alike. Housing
is very affordable in Killeen, with single family homes in
all price ranges to suit first time buyers, move up buyers,
luxury home buyers and retirees looking for a home AND an
affordable cost of living. Killeen is a ten to fifteen
minute commute to Fort Hood.
Copperas Cove, Texas
Situated on the west side of Fort Hood,
in Coryell County, Copperas Cove is a community with a more
laid back small town atmosphere than Killeen and Harker
Heights. Copperas Cove is very proud of their strong
academically recognized school system, as well as their
winning high school football team, the Cove Bulldogs.
Housing in Copperas Cove is also very affordable, with mid
century homes featuring original hardwood floors on the
market, as well as brand new construction homes with updated
features for sale in several price ranges. It’s a quieter
lifestyle in Cove, with cozy restaurants and a hometown
movie theater showing first run movies. Copperas Cove is
about a twenty minute drive to the main PX and commissary at
Fort Hood, and about a fifteen minute drive to Killeen.
Harker Heights, Texas
Harker Heights, located just to the east of Killeen and in
Bell County, has had an incredible year of well managed
growth. Extensive new construction for commercial
businesses as well as for upscale residential properties has
kept Harker Heights in the local and state headlines this
past year. The opening of Market Heights, a premier
shopping area featuring Barnes and Nobles books, James Avery
Jewelers, Target, an 18 screen movie theater, Bed, Bath and
Beyond, Lane Bryant, Rue 21, Old Navy, Cracker Barrel
restaurant, and many other places to shop and dine has been
a boon to Harker Heights and to the central Texas economy.
Harker Heights is the destination city of choice for many
home buyers who arrive at Fort Hood via a military
relocation, and is about a twenty five minute commute to
Fort Hood.
