Fort Hood Texas

Fort Hood is known by the Army as the "Great Place," and is the largest active duty armored post in the US Army. Resting in the "northeastern hill country" of Texas near Killeen, Copperas Cove and Harker Heights, Fort Hood is located between Austin and Waco. The Dallas Fort Worth metroplex is 160 miles to the North of Fort Hood, and Austin, the state capital, is located 70 miles to the south.

The weather in Fort Hood is nice with warm winters (usually) and hot summers. Nearby lakes provide year-round fun for those who enjoy outdoor activities.  

Fort Hood was the largest military base in the free world prior to the breakup of the Soviet Union. It is an open base during peace time with two military museums including the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area (BLORA), and a number of other facilities that are open to the public.

Three Sections of Fort Hood

Fort Hood Main Post
Located between Killeen & Copperas Cove to the east and west respectively. Maintains the Hood Army Airfield.

West Fort Hood
West Fort Hod is bounded by Killeen and Copperas Cove. Includes Robert Gray Army Airfield, which has been expanded for civilian use (Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport (GRK)). To the east and southeast, the reservation is bounded by Harker Heights, Nolanville, Belton, and Morgan's Point Resort.

North Fort Hood
North Fort Hood is next to Gatesville Texas and supports National Guard training activities.
